At NLCS Kobe, we believe that education is about more than academic achievement. It is about developing young people who recognise their ability to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Recently, a group of students, led by our Student Leader for Community and Sustainability, spent their lunchtime taking part in a litter pick around Rokko Island. Working together, they collected rubbish from the local area as a simple but meaningful way of caring for the community they are proud to call home.

For our students, this was more than an opportunity to tidy the neighbourhood. It was an opportunity to put values into action. By taking responsibility for their local environment, they experienced first-hand how individual actions can contribute to the wellbeing of a wider community.

Experiences like this help students develop leadership, initiative and a sense of purpose. Whether encouraging others to get involved, identifying ways to make a difference or working together towards a shared goal, they are learning that leadership is demonstrated through action.

At NLCS Kobe, sustainability is not simply something discussed in the classroom. It is something our students are encouraged to practise every day through thoughtful choices, meaningful service and active engagement with the community around them.

We are proud of every student who took part and look forward to seeing this initiative continue to grow as our students find new ways to make a positive impact, both within school and beyond.
