As NLCS Kobe prepares to welcome new members of staff this August, several teachers recently travelled to NLCS (UK) to participate in the annual NLCS International Teacher Training Conference.

Bringing together newly appointed colleagues from across the NLCS family of schools, including NLCS Jeju, NLCS Dubai, NLCS (Singapore) and NLCS Kobe, the conference provides an important opportunity for teachers to develop a deep understanding of the educational philosophy, values and expectations that unite all NLCS schools.

Hosted at the founding school in London, the three-day programme explored the key elements that define an NLCS education. Through lesson observations, professional discussions, workshops and sessions led by senior leaders, delegates examined topics including the IB Continuum, teaching and learning, student engagement, assessment, innovation and emerging technologies.

A central focus of the conference was Academic Excellence. Teachers explored what constitutes an outstanding lesson, how to foster intellectual curiosity and independent thinking, and how to create learning experiences that challenge and inspire students to achieve their full potential.

Equally important was the focus on Pastoral Care and Wellbeing. Sessions highlighted the importance of student voice, belonging, wellbeing and strong partnerships between school and home. Delegates considered how schools can support every student not only academically, but also socially and emotionally, ensuring that they feel known, valued and empowered to succeed.

One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to hear directly from students at NLCS (UK), gaining valuable insight into the experiences that shape life within the NLCS community. These conversations reinforced the importance of balancing high academic expectations with a supportive and nurturing environment.

The conference also provided opportunities for colleagues from across the NLCS family to connect, exchange ideas and build professional relationships. By sharing best practice and learning from one another, teachers strengthen the global network that supports excellence across all NLCS schools.

As our colleagues prepare to join NLCS Kobe in the new academic year, they do so with new knowledge, fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of what it means to deliver an NLCS education. We look forward to welcoming them to our community and seeing the positive impact they will have on our students’ learning and wellbeing.
